It’s time for the Pocklington Tennis Club Annual Tournament. Whether you want to play singles, doubles or both, we have competitions which cover them all.
This year’s format is a bit different from previous years…
Instead of spreading out the fixtures over a number of weeks with finals for each competition played out on a single Finals’ Day, this year will see each competition completed from start to finish on their own dedicated day (though the two singles competitions will be held simultaneously).
Entry lists can be found in the clubhouse. Alternatively please send us an email or message us through Facebook.

Men’s Singles Report
On what was a great morning at Pocklington Tennis Club, the Ashcourt Group sponsored Men’s Tournament delivered some truly entertaining tennis.
After the round robin was completed it left Trevor Loten and Dave Thompson to play the final in 30c heat which would have tested anyone. They produced a final to grace the Men’s Challenge Trophy which was first competed for in 1906.
They battled through the heat with the game swinging from one way to another. Dave Thompson eventually taking the wonderful spectacle 6-2 1-6 6-4.
As a start for the finals at the Club it will take some beating.
Men’s Doubles Report
Pocklington Tennis Club’s Mens Trophy has a new partnership on it as Trevor Loten and Adam Smith overcame David Thompson and Matt Ralphs 6-7 6-2 6-3 in a final of great quality.
Big hitting mixed with great skill and exciting rallies kept the spectators enthralled.
Well done Trevor (Overcoming last week’s disappointment in the singles) and Adam for a great mornings work on court.

Ladies’ Doubles Report
Pocklington Ladies Doubles Tournament was held on Sunday which proved to be a great success. The Ladies enjoying their Tennis in good weather to keep everyone at the Club thoroughly entertained.
A round robin opening round, where each couple played everyone else threw up two finalists with Loobie Kettlewell and Jean Hunter playing Helen Fairey and Josephine Nuttman.
Josephine, playing from the back of the court, tried to wear down Loobie and Jean, but the latter were too consistent and strong, running out worthy winners 6-4 6-3. Well done Ladies.
A third place play off was played with Debbie Gleig and Hazel Rowe coming out on top over Roseanne Dane and Helen Marsden.
Mixed Doubles Report
Nine couples entered the Mixed Doubles tournament today, including three new members who we were delighted to welcome.
After a 6 round robin competition, the final was played between Sue Sumner & Dave Gamble vs. Josephine Nuttman & John Wood.
Sue & Dave came out on top 6-3 6-3, though the score didn’t reflect the nip and tuck nature of the play, particularly between the two ladies.
Thanks to all the participants for their support and positive feedback for this new annual tournament format. Thanks too to our sponsors, The Ashcourt Group.
